Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is to question convicted former tax official Gayus Tambunan next Tuesday (Feb 2), a spokesman said.

"We have just received word from the South Jakarta District Court that we can question Gayus next Tuesday, not tomorrow (Friday, Jan 28), KPK spokesman Johan Budi said here Thursday.

Earlier, Johan had said the KPK would possibly quiz Gayus on Friday (Jan 28), Monday (Jan 31) or Tuesday (Feb 1).

Until Thursday afternoon, Johan was still unsure when the rogue tax official would be examined by the KPK because it depended on the South Jakarta District Court which had recently sentenced Gayus to seven years in jail for tax fraud.

Johan had earlier also said the KPK had coordinated with the police on its plan to summon Gayus for questioning at the anti-graft body`s office.

Statements from Gayus were badly needed in KPK`s investigation into the tax evasion scams in which Gayus was involved.

KPK chairman Busyro Muqqddas had earlier said the commission had already begun investigating Gayus` case.

"The collective KPK leadership has at a meeting decided to handle the Gayus case," he said.

He said no political pressure could force the KPK to pass up the Gayus case. In its investigation, the KPK could summon anybody involved in Gayus`s judicial mafia and tax fraud case, including two police generals believed to have known about how blocked bank accounts in Gayus`s name could have been released, namely brigadiers general Raja Erizman and Edmond Ilyas, Busyro said.
