Tehran (ANTARA News/MNA) - In a statement published on Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast expressed concern over the interference of the United States in Tunisia`s internal affairs.

The comments by Mehmanparast followed remarks by Washington officials about developments in Tunisia and the upcoming visit to the country by U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Jeffrey Feltman.

Tunisian President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali?s government fell on January 14 after weeks of bloody protests over unemployment and high food prices.

Mehmanparast also called on the Tunisians to remain vigilant and united, expressing hope that the public demands will be satisfied through the establishment of a democratic and fair system in the country.

According to AFP, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Tuesday that she is ?encouraged? by what she sees as moves in Tunisia toward inclusive elections as soon as possible.

Clinton gave her assessment after having spoken with Tunisian Foreign Minister Kamel Morjane and Prime Minister Mohammed Ghannouchi.

"I'm encouraged by the direction that they are setting towards inclusive elections that will be held as soon as practicable," she said. (*)
