Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) detained a number of legislators of 2004-2009 named suspects in the traveler`s check bribery case linked to the election of central bank senior deputy governor Miranda Goeltom in 2004.

"This is political," one of them, former head of the National Development Planning Board, Paskah Suzetta, said here on Friday.

He said he would take political actions to fight his arrest and also the arrest of others.

Some of the suspects held at the Cipinang Penitentiary in East Jakarta include Sofyan Usman, Paskah Suzetta, Daniel Tanjung, Sutanto Pranoto, Poltak Sitorus, Matius Formes, M Iqbal, Martin Briaseran and Hafid Zawawi.

Those held at the Salemba Penitentiary in Central Jakarta are Asep Nuhimat, Baharudin Aritonang, Nurlip Suwarno and Reza Kamarullah.

The former legislators who were held at the Women`s Penitentiary are Angelina and Ni Luh Mariani.

Angelinn who looked unable to accept the KPK`s move said that the detention was an effort to distract the people`s attention from other corruption cases such as the Century Bank scandal and the case of Gayus Tambunan.

All of these suspects will stay in the detention centers for 20 days as of Friday for further investigation.

KPK had earlier discovered alleged bribery during the election of Bank Indonesia senior deputy governor in 2004 which was finally won by Miranda Goeltom.

The case involves 25 lawmakers of House Commission IX of 1999-2004 as suspects.

The corruption court meanwhile has sentenced four of them to jails, namely Dudhie Makmun Murod, Hamka Yamdhu, Endin Soefihara and Udju Djuhaeri.(*)
