The citizens who have just arrived from Cairo will later be taken to the Pondok Gede hajj dormitory in East Jakarta for re-registrationTangerang, Banten (ANTARA News) - The second batch of 421 Indonesian evacuees from Egypt arrived at Soekarno-Hatta airport by a Garuda flight on Friday.
Upon arrival at the airport, they were greeted by Vice President Boediono, Transportation Minister Freddy Numberi and Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa.
"The citizens who have just arrived from Cairo will later be taken to the Pondok Gede hajj dormitory in East Jakarta for re-registration," Chairman of the Task Force for Evacuation of Indonesian Citizens Hassan Wirajuda said.
From the hajj dormitory, they would later return to their hometowns by bus, plane and train, he said.
Wirajuda said the evacuees who hailed from Lampung, West Java, Central Java and Banten provinces would be carried to their hometowns by buses provided by the government.
"For those hailing from outside Java, the government is providing planes to carry them to their hometowns," he said.
The task force is expected to evacuate the third batch of an estimated 800 Indonesian citizens from Egypt on Saturday.
Some 415 Indonesian evacuees arrived at Soekarno-Hatta airport on Wednesday (Feb. 2), as the first fleet of thousands of Indonesians to be evacuated from riot-hit Egypt.
According to data from the Foreign Affairs Ministry, there are 6,149 Indonesians living in Egypt consisting of 4,297 students and 1,002 workers, as well as Indonesian Embassy staff and their families.
