Moscow (ANTARA News/RIA Novosti) - Russia`s Foreign Ministry has sent its staff members to aid Russian nationals in Egypt, hit by violent protests against the president for nearly two weeks, a spokesman for Russia`s tourism agency has said.

The Russian diplomats will arrive on Saturday in the popular Red Sea resorts of Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada to monitor the situation and provide aid to Russian nationals living in Egypt.

"Two members of the ministry`s department of the Middle East and North Africa will leave for Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh to coordinate work with the representatives of the Rostourism agency, who are in these tourist centers," Oleg Moseev said.

Five top Russian tour operators earlier announced their decision to evacuate all Russian tourists from Egypt by February 9. According to the Russian state tourism agency, some 32,000 Russians are currently on vacation at Egyptian resorts.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov raised hope on Friday that Egypt will overcome the political crisis as soon as possible.

Hundreds of thousands of protesters gathered on Tahrir Square on Friday, demanding President Hosni Mubarak`s resignation on what they dubbed the Day of Departure. The 82-year-old president said he was worried that his departure would plunge the country into chaos.

The United Nations said at least 300 people have died in Egypt since the protests started on January 25. The country`s Health Ministry said about 5,000 people have been injured.(*)
