Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government denounced on Sunday the attack on followers of the Islamic sect Ahmadiyah in Pandeglang district, Banten province, that left at least three people dead earlier in the day.

"The government denounces the violent act and asks security agencies to investigate (the case) and take action against the perpetrators," Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto said.

The government totally banned any form of violent act against fellow citizens, he said.

"So, it is clear that any violent act, the more so if it claims lives, must be investigated thoroughly by taking firm action against whoever is involved in it," he said.

Spokesman for the Ahmadiyah Indonesia Executive Board Mubarik Ahmad said at least three followers of the Islamic sect had been killed in the attack in Cikeusik subdistrict, Pandeglang district, Banten province.

"The figure is based on data I received until this evening. Earlier report put the figure at six. The figure declined to four and further to three," he said.

The three were identified as Mulyadi, Tarno and Roni.

"Tarno and Mulyadi are the older and younger brothers of Ahmadiyah preacher Parman in Cikeusik," Mubarik said.(*)T.SYS/B/S012/S012) 06-02-2011 21:58:06
