Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The government will always make an effort to curb the impact of its decision to limit the use of subsidized fuels on the inflation rate, a minister said.

"If the policy is not implemented with caution it may have an impact on the inflation rate. Therefore, preparations have been made to limit the use of subsidized fuels beginning from Jakarta," Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo said here on Monday.

He said state oil and gas company Pertamina, along with the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas) and other government agencies kept monitoring preparations to limit the use of subsidized fuels starting April 2011.

"We must try to ensure that the policy to limit the use of subsidized fuels run well. At the start of 2010 we planned to increase power rates but to no avail," he said.

The minister further said the economy grew by 6.1 percent in 2010, surpassing the government-set target of 5.8 percent.

"The growth is encouraging. It was fueled by household consumption, investment and exports," he said.

He said the 2010 exports were dominated by crude palm oil and its derivative products. "The challenge that lies ahead is how we can do better," he said.(*)
