According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the epicenter of the earthquake was located 235 kilometers southwest of Nusa Dua at a depth of 10 kilometers in the sea.
But there was no immediate report of casualties and material damage from the earthquake, located at the coordinate of 10.37 degrees southern latitude and 113.79 degrees eastern longitude.
Some people in Jember district, East Java, also felt the magnitude of the earthquake.
"I was awakened from my sleep as I felt my bed was swaying," said Rahmawati, a resident of Mangli village in Kaliwates subdistrict, Jember, on Wednesday morning.
Rahmawati said she stayed awake for fear of a stronger aftershock.
"I stayed awake for about two hours but there was nothing so I went back to sleep," Rahmawati said.
Earlier at about 3.16 on Tuesday afternoon another temblor measuring 5 on the Richter scale also jolted the eastern Indonesian city of Ambon in Maluku province.
Its epicenter was located 6.00 degrees southern latitude and 127 degrees eastern longitude at a depth of 380 kilometers in the sea, some 265 kilometers southwest of Ambon.
On Monday afternoon, Padang Sidempuan district in North Sumatra was also rocked by an earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale.
According to the Medan Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency, the epicenter of the earthquake was at 0.81 degree Northern Latitude and 98.65 degree Eastern Longitude or 93 km Southwest of Padang Sidempuan at a depth of 93 km.
The temblor was felt in Sibolga, Central Tapanuli District and Aek Gondang, Mandailing Natal District at 3.4 MMI (Modified Mercalli Intensity), while in Dolok Sanggul, Humbang Hasundutan District the temblor`s intensity was only three MMI.
Although the epicenter of the earthquake was in the ocean, the temblor did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami.
