Jakarta police could not as yet take any action with regard to the organization considered having been anarchic as they were still waiting for a decision to be made by ministers and other officials concerned.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta police said they were ready to execute any decision made by the government regarding organizations that often resort to violence.

"We are ready to enforce any decision now still being discussed by state officials," the Jakarta Police`s public relations officer, Senior Commissioner Baharudin Djafar, said here on Thursday.

He said the Jakarta police could not as yet take any action with regard to the organization considered having been anarchic as they were still waiting for a decision to be made by ministers and other officials concerned.

He said the police do not have the authority to dissolve an organization.

He said the Jakarta police had developed communication informally with a number of mass organizations to recognize their identities.

Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi said earlier that a mass organization proven to be involved or have carried out anarchic activities could be dissolved.

"Certainly the decision should be taken based upon facts and evidence. Those who have facts are officials in the field," he said on Wednesday.

The minister of home affairs, the minister of religius affairs, the minister of justice and human rights as well as the national police chief have met to discuss the future of the organization that had been considered anarchic.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono had said that there must not be a room for organizations that are anarchic.

He said potentials for violence and social tension must be curbed in line with legal norms and democracy.

He said security forces and other authorities concerned had to dissolve organizations found to have often carried out and condoned anarchic activities.

The discussion over the future of anarchic organizations was done following the attack on Ahmadiyah minority Islamic sect in Cikeusik, Pandeglang, Banten, on Sunday that left three people dead.

Two churches meanwhile had been burned and another one vandalized during rioting in Temanggung, Central Java, on Tuesday, over dissatisfaction over a sentence to a defendant in a blasphemy case.(*)
