Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Constitutional Court Judge Arsyad Sanusi stepped down from his position as the Judges Ethics Council (MKH) declared him guilty of violating the judiciary code of ethics.

"I declare myself, with respect, step down and ask for early retirement from my position as a constitutional judge," Arsyad Sanusi said here on a press conference on Friday.

According to him, his resignation is to maintain the nobleness, honor, and dignity of constitutional judges.

Arsyad values the assessment of the honorary council which stated Arsyad failed to look after some of his family members, who were involved in negotiation schemes with some defendants.

"As a constitutional judge, i sincerely value the council`s assessment," he said.

Arsyad would send immediately his resignation letter to the President and the Head of Constitutional Court for their approvals as well as to enable the Supreme Court to find the substitute.

The council had found a fact of a meeting between Dirwan Mahmud former candidate of South Bengkulu District Head with Neshawaty, Arsyad`s daughter and also Zaimar, Arsyad`s brother in law in Arsyad house, Head of MKH Harjono said, adding that they also met with Substitution Secretary (PP) Makhfud in series of meeting afterward.

The meetings was arranged to manipulate the trial verdict by winning Dirwan. Dirwan and Makhfud had admitted that they give sums of money in the negotiation.

Although Neshawaty only attended the meeting twice, she was regarded to be actively involved by introducing Makhfud and arranged meetings between Makhfud and Dirwan.

Zaimar, however, was working more actively than Neshawaty, Harjono said.

Arsyad Sanusi was considered to have to be ethically responsible for the misdeed conducted by his family members.
