Chinese Embassy in Egypt received some 400 Chinese nationals who arrived from Libya by land, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ma Zhaoxu told a regular press conference in Beijing.
More than 5,000 Chinese aboard two Greek-flagged ships also arrived at the port of Iraklio on the Greek island of Crete at 2 p.m. local time (1200 GMT). Evacuees are then due to leave the Greek island on specially chartered flights.
Ma went on so say that China cooperated with some other European countries for the evacuation of its citizens out of Libya, but he did not specify any states.
Around 33,000 Chinese nationals, most of them are workers, were living in Libya when unrest started in the North African country.(*)
