The four parties had decided to merge into the Gerindra Party after failing to meet the Parliamentary Threshold requirement
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Following the example of the Star Reform Party (PBR), four more small political parties are going to merge with the Greater Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party, the latter`s leaders said.

"The Republican Party has declared its intention to merge with us, and so have three other parties," chairman of the Gerindra Party`s board of patrons Prabowo Subianto said here Friday.

Meanwhile, Gerindra Party Vice Chairman Fadli Zon said the three other parties that would merge with his party beside the Republican Party were the Indonesian Entrepreneurs and Labor Party (P3I), the National Ranks Party (Barnas) and the Prosperous Peace Party (PDS).

The four parties had decided to merge into the Gerindra Party after failing to meet the Parliamentary Threshold requirement, Fadli said.

"They are coming to Gerindra to fight together based on the same ideological principles and a common political platform," Fadli said.

The four parties wanted to accommodate their members and cadres` political aspirations and enable them to participate in the 2014 general election, Fadli said.

Earlier, on Friday (Feb 18), the Star Reform Party (PBR) had declared its merger with the Gerindra Party in accordance with a deal reached by PBR Chairman Bursah Zarnubi and Gerindra Party Chairman Suhardi as well as Gerinda Party chief patron Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta.

"We have agreed to merge ahead of 2014 and we want to be the alternative power," Bursah said.

On October 31 2010, six political parties calling themselves Message of the People`s Suffering Axis (Poros Amanat Penderitaan Rakyat or Ampera) had also declared their merger into the Gerindra Party.

Ampera`s members were the Merdeka Party, Labor Party, Indonesian Nahdatul Ummah Unity Party, Massa Marhaenis National Indonesia Party (PNI), Sovereignty Party, and Indonesian Union Party (PSI).(*)
