Jagoi Babang, West Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - Indonesia will evaluate its security posts on the border with Malaysia to see if they need to be relocated or increased, National Defense Forces (TNI) Commander Admiral Agus Suhartono said.

"Yes, we will soon evaluate them to see which ones need to be relocated and which areas need to be given more posts," he said when inspecting a border security post at Jagoi Babang, Bengkayang, West Kalimantan, here on Saturday.

He said the move was taken with an aim of maximizing the security of the 966 kilometer-long land border between Indonesia`s West Kalimantan province and Malaysia`s Serawak.

"Yes, we certainly cannot do it all at once but a survey has first to be done and it has and we just make priorities," he said.

Agus said the government still has problems with land acquisition for establishing new security posts because some of the land belongs to the people, the national park or protected forests.

"So we cannot do it fast. But it does not mean that TNI is doing nothing," he said.

He said what was clear was that evaluation would soon be done and addition of posts would be done in stages as of 2011.

In general, he said there are several main points that have to be considered to increase security on the border namely provision of facilities including transportation means and communication equipment and personnel.

The chief of the Task Force for Border Security of the Infantry Batallion 641/Bru, Let Col Trisaktiono, said in an expose that the West Kalimantan-Serawak border line was guarded by around 615 personnel spreading in 32 security posts.

He said 200 kilometers of the border line is under status quo because it is part of the national park.

He said no adequate road network is available in addition to limited electricity supply, telecommunication network and transportation means for carrying out security monitoring and checks.(*)
