"The second round of vaccination is expected to reach all dogs in the province," Chief of Bali`s Animal Husbandry`s Office Ni Wayan Listyawati said here on Thursday at a seminar titled Bali Free From rabies in 2012.
Apart from conducting vaccination activity, Listyawati said, her staff would also hold socialization to the people about Bali government`s commitment to free the province from rabies by 2012.
She said the first round of vaccination had succeed to reach 80.91 percent of the total of 447,966 dogs in Bali province. Listyawati also said her office also had eliminated stray dogs with the hope that it could reduce the potential of rabies spread in Bali.
She also expressed hope that the local people would support Bali government`s commitment in handling rabies.
The central government through the health ministry had so far provided 15.304 vials of anti-rabies vaccine. Since the beginning the handling of rabies in Bali was done in a coordinated way and had spent 149.965 vials of anti-rabies vaccine.
The Bali provincial government itself had provided 77,876 vials of anti-rabies vaccine and district governments 46,510 vials.
Earlier, the Head Center of Promotion from the ministry of health, dr Lily Sulistyowati, MM added the number of victims of rabies in Bali would increase if it was not immediately addressed maximally.
Many efforts must be made to handle victims of rabies and the vaccination activity must reach all dogs in Bali.
She said that the dog population in Bali was approximately 500,000 of which 360,000 had already been vaccinated. The dog vaccination was done continuously by involving the community and all of the stakeholders.
