Jambi (ANTARA News) - Japan is still the main destination of Jambi`s exports despite a 8.9-magnitude earthquake and tsunami that engulfed the country last Friday, a spokesman said.

"Japan is the main market for Jambi`s exports," Head of Jambi Statistics Center Agency (BPS) Dyan Pramono Effendi said here Tuesday.

Data from the Jambi BPS show both Jambi`s exports to and imports from Japan every month had been quite large.

In 2010, Jambi`s exports to Japan reached US$163.35 million with a volume of 53.8 million tons, accounting for one-third of the province`s total exports.

Meanwhile, in January 2011, Jambi`s exports to Japan were still large enough reaching US$21.46 million with a volume of 5.8 million tons.

On the other hand, Jambi`s imports from Japan in 2010 reached US$16.67 million with a volume of 1.02 million tons.

Jambi`s imports from Japan in January 2011 reached US$73 thousand with a volume of 40 thousand tons, Dyan explained.

Judging by the data, he said it is certain that after the natural disasters Jambi`s exports to Japan will likely remain unaffected.
