The natural disaster and tsunami that has crippled Japan will have an impact on the world economy that will also be felt in Indonesia.Solo, Central Java (ANTARA News)- The Indonesian economy is predicted to be affected by the earthquake and subsequent tsunami which hit Japan on March 11, 2011, a businessman said.
General Chairman of the Indonesian Entrepreneurs Association (Apindo), Sofyan Wanandi, made the remarks when he appeared as a speaker at a seminar on the nation`s competitiveness strategy here on Tuesday.
"The natural disaster and tsunami that has crippled Japan will have an impact on the world economy that will also be felt in Indonesia. The country`s economic growth target at 6.3 percent per annum will also be affected," he said.
He said the disaster would clearly affect Indonesia`s exports to Japan. After all, the 2008 crisis that hit European countries and the United States has just receded yet now another disaster hit an advanced nation in Asia. "This will obviously disturb (the economy)," he said.
Wanandi said that there must be efforts and talks on how to overcome from now. Talks should not only on politics without being balanced with issues on economic problems.
"The current government has run for 1.5 years but what was being discussed are merely political matters, not breakthroughs on how to advance the economy," he added.(*)
