They were found alive in Miyagi prefecture last Saturday after their parents lost contact since the massive earthquake and tsunami struck the country on March 11, Lina Yuniawati said.
The three SMKN 1 graduates who had been taking part in an internship program with a Japanese company were identified as Neng Silvi, 20-year-old resident of Cibadak subdistrict, Siti Silvia Harlena, 20 year-old resident of Cisaat subdistrict; and Yuli Karlina, 21-year-old resident of Cibadak subdistrict.
They were now scheduled to return to Indonesia through Narita International Airport on Tuesday, said Lina Yuniawati, Yuli Karlina`s mother.
She said her daughter and her two friends happened to be at their employer`s poultry farm ion a hilly area when the 9.0-magnitude earthquake and deadly tsunami struck.
"My daughter was finally able to call me on March 19 and tell me that she and her two colleagues were safe," she said.
The three SMKN 1 graduates took an internship program at a poultry industry, organized by the Japan Indonesia Association for Economic Cooperation (JIAEC).
A powerful earthquake, followed by a deadly tsunami, struck Japan on March 11, killing at least 5,000 people. As a result of the natural disaster, one of the country`s nuclear power plants developed a leak.
The fate of Indonesians in Japan become the government`s great concern in an effort to ensure that they are all safe and healthy.
Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa said the Indonesian embassy had been ordered to evacuate Indonesians to locations of at least 50 kilometers from the danger zone.
Japan itself has asked Indonesia to increase its liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies to help the country deal with the impacts of damaged nuclear power plant.
