Palangkaraya, C Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - Some 30 governors from various countries will gather in Central Kalimantan province in September 2011 to attend a climate change and environment forum.

"The event is initiated by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Each of participating countries is expected to send one to three governors to the meeting," Central Kalimantan Governor Agustin Teras Narang SH said here on Friday.

To be organized by an independent institute, the forum would discuss a wide range of issues related to climate change and the environment, he said.

The local government would only provide a venue for the international meeting and all the expenses arising from the activity would be borne by the independent institute, he said.

"It is for the event`s organizing committee to invite the governors. So the Central Kalimantan government has no authority to invite the governors from all over the world including those from Indonesia," he said.

Central Kalimantan had been chosen as the venue of the meeting thanks to its commitment to conserving the environment, he said.

Such forum had been organized since Arnold Schwarzenegger assumed the post of California governor in 2007. "Since it was for the first time held in 2007 I have once participated in it at the invitation of California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger," he said.(*)
