We do not want to see problems of distribution due to the fireJakarta (ANTARA News) - The Commission VII of the House of Representatives (DPR) has asked for a thorough investigation into the fire at an oil refinery in Cilacap, Central Java, since Saturday morning.
Commission chairman Teuku Riefky Harsya said here on Monday the investigation was needed to prevent the incident from happening again in the future.
"Besides focusing on fire handling we have also asked for an investigation into the fire. We wish the incident will never happen again in the future," he said.
He said a refinery is a key facility that must be guarded seriously because any disruption on it moreover a fire could affect the people seriously.
Riefky also asked state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina to improve its operations security and safety standards to prevent such incident.
He said although the government has assured the incident would not affect fuel oil distribution the Commission VII would keep monitoring its development.
"We do not want to see problems of distribution due to the fire," he said.
He hoped efforts to extinguish the fire could be done more quickly to prevent the fire from spreading.
He said the DPR would also ask energy regulator BP Migas and Pertamina to safeguard oil/gas supply especially to those supplied by the Cilacap refinery so far.
He said he would summon the energy minister and the president director of PT Pertamina if the fire affected oil/gas supply.
Three of 207 fuel tanks in the Cilacap refinery had been burned as of Saturday.
Pertamina was preparing a Terminator Canon Foam to put out the fire which is still raging at 31-T7 tank Monday evening, the company`s media manager Wianda Pusponegoro said.
"Another unit is still being prepared and hopefully could be used soon," she said.
She said the fire in the first 31-T2 tank had been extinguished totally on Sunday as well as the second one 31-T3.(*)
