Pontianak, W Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - PT Bangun Nusa Mandiri (PT BNM), a subsidiary of oil palm plantation company Sinar Mas Group, has participated in repairing damaged roads in Ketapang district, West Kalimantan province, a spokesman said.

The road repair work took place in the sub-districts of Tumbang Titi, Marau and Nanga Tayap, Ketapang district, said the West Kalimantan Sinar Mas group top leader, Susanto.

"The donation and road repair are a form of concern to the surrounding environment, particularly for infrastructure improvement," he said, adding that the company provided heavy equipment, such as backhoe loader, motor graders, road compactor, excavator and dump truck to haul the soil.

The roads repair was purely the corporate initiatives to help the communities and local government, Susanto said.

In addition, PT BNM, according to him, also participated in constructing new roads including the Renko road for 1.5 kilometer long, connecting the Riam I and Riam II in Periangan village, Jelai Hulu sub-district.

PT BNM also rehabilitated the connecting road between the village of Biku Sarana, the hamlets of Pering Kunyit and Bayam Sungai Lalang for 3.7 miles long.

According to him, prior to constructing the connecting road, the villagers were only able to use water transportation to travel to neighboring villages.

expressed thanks giving to PT BNM for its participation to help build the new roads and repair the damaged roads.

Apart from that, PT Kencana Graha Permai (PT KGP), a subsidiary of oil palm plantation company Sinar Mas Group, had also taken part in rehabilitating roads.

In the meantime, the community of Carik hamlet, Marau sub-district, Cornelius expressed thanks for PT KGP`S help to build roads in his village.(*)
