Kopassus media liaison officer Lt Colonel Thevi said here on Tuesday that the cooperation between the two countries` elite forces has been running well in the forms of routine trainings and exchanges of officers.
Lt Colonel Thevi spoke to ANTARA News after a visit to Kopassus headquarters in East Jakarta by Australian Defense Attache Colonel John Gould and Australia`s Intelligence School chief Lt Colonel Justin Roke.
"The joint training programs are held alternately in Indonesia and in Australia. In the future this cooperation will be increased and expanded further in scope," Thevi said.
One form of the expanded cooperation scopes being explored is the setting up of an anti-terror coordinating agency for the two countries` elite forces. "This coordinating agency will enable a better coordination of anti-terror handling," he said.
In addition to the coordinating agency, Kopassus and the SASR are exploring possibilities in cooperation on technical and psychological operations. Kopassus has the plan for forming a Special Operation Command similar to Australia`s Special Operation Command or the Soccom.(*)
