Cilacap, Central Java (ANTARA News) - Fire fighters have successfully extinguished a fire that has burned fuel tanks at Pertamina Refinery Unit IV in Cilacap, Central Java, early on Wednesday.

"Thank God, the fire was extinguished at down today. Until now however we still keep protecting so that the fire inside Tank 31-T-7 would be minimum and would not spread out of the tank", Pertamina`s media manager Wianda Pusponegoro said.

Regarding the possibility for the team from the Forensic Laboratory Center to conduct an investigation on the location she said it would be done after conditions were declared really safe.

In connection with that Pertamina`s corporate secretary Hari Karyuliarto said he could not as yet confirm when it would happen.

"We will assure that the conditions are really safe before on-site investigation could be carried out," he said.

ANTARA News learned no fire was seen at Tank 31-T-7 at 9.45am but black smoke was still billowing from it.

The fire at Pertamina Refinery Unit IV first broke out at Tank 31-T24.55am on Saturday and then spread to Tank 31-T3 and later to Tank 31-T-7.

The fire at Tank 31-T-2 and Tank 31-T-3 was put out on Sunday.

State enterprises minister Mustafa Abubakar meanwhile said the fuel stocks for regions so far supplied from fuel tanks in Cilacap remained secured.

"The stock is safe for Yogyakarta, Central and West Java," he said at the office of the coordinating minister for economic affairs here on Wednesday.

Regarding the cause of the fire the minister said it was still being investigated by the police.(*)
