"Many residents of the sub-district are still evacuated at a shelter at Besikama I elementary school because their villages are again inundated," Yohanes Seran (39), a local resident, said here Sunday through a phone call from Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).
Seran, who is also a nominee for village council (BPD) membership, said the present flood was not as big as the one that the region on early Saturday morning (April 9).
"The inundation which came from Benenain River starts to pass trough new paths making the area of West Malaka look like an ocean," he said.
He added there were about 80 families from Bekolo and Lasaen at the shelter at the Besikama elementary school due to the inundation of the area.
The flood was predicted to hit southern Belu because rainfall in South Timor Tengah and North Timor Tengah districts was high.
The flood that inundated southern Belu was from Benenain River due to the high rainfall in the locations.
A day before, Raymundus Seran Kobe, a local inhabitant, and his family were dragged by the flood. Fortunately, they could survive from the four meter height flash flood.(*)
