Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Brigadier General Agus Sutomo starting Monday (April 11, 2011) officially assumes the post of Presidential Guard Commander or Paspampres replacing Maj Gen Waris who will be promoted to become Jakarta military commander.

The transfer of function of the Paspampres commander took place at the Command Headquarters led by Military chief, Admiral Agus Suhartono here on Monday.

Brig Gen Agus Sutomo who was a graduate of the Military Academy in 1984, previously served as Deputy Commander of the Army Special Forces (Kopassus), and former Chief of Staff of the Kostrad (Army`s Strategic Reserves Command) Division-1.

Admiral Agus Suhartono said that the presidential Guard forces should increase alertness, along with the development of a more dynamic strategic environment.

"At present, the world becomes more dynamic," he said.

The military chief also said that the growing issues such as terrorism demand the Paspampres to be more vigilant in protecting the state symbols namely the president and vice president.

The presidential guard forces, according to Agus Suhartono, are required to have an accurate and a sharp way of thinking.

In addition, he asked the Paspampres forces to step up their work performance.
