"We will not import alumina three years from now," said the minister along with the deployment of Chemical Grade Alumina (CGA) project along with the acquisition of PT Inalum in North Sumatra in 2013.
MS Hidayat said that with its advantages, the Tayan project is considered to be phenomenal which also consisted in into the Indonesian industrial road map with added value.
There are six priority groups in the industrial fields, namely labor-intensive industries, small and medium industries, capital and technology intensive industries, natural resource-based industries, industries with high growth, and specific industries such as sugar, fertilizer and petrochemicals.
Alumina mining downstream development can produce at least 100 types of derivatives that can be generated, he said.
"Within ten years, if the alumina production runs well, it will provide a following impact on other business sectors." he said.
Earlier, the State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Minister Mustafa Abubakar was scheduled to officially announce the first pillar of PT Indonesia Chemical Alumina (ICA) which is owned PT Aneka Tambang (80 percent) and PT Showa Denko (20 percent).
He said that to meet the national demands, Indonesia still importing alumina.
CGA project`s production capacity in Tayan reaches 300 thousand tons of alumina yearly, the investment value reaches 450 million US dollars which scheduled to be done within 32 months.
Besides Tayan, PT Aneka Tambang through its subsidiary company also planning to built similar factory in Toho, Pontianak with 1.2 million tons capacity yearly,
According to PT Aneka Tambang executive director Alamsyah Lubis, the investment values around one million US dollars and the company is still in the middle study stage for Toho project,
The Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) chief Gita Wiryawan said that alumina production in Tayan will reach five percent of the world`s alumina production.
"This project is expected not only provide added values in the industrial fields, but for the regional also," Gita said.
The Antam`s CGA project itself will contribute at least 200 million US dollars for PT ICA.
