Cairo (ANTARA News) - Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa arrived in Cairo, Egypt, on Thursday morning to begin an official visit to the Middle Eastern nation.

During his one-day visit, Minister Marty will have meetings with his partner, Egyptian Foreign Affairs Minister Nabil Al Arabi, and Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf, said the head of the Indonesian embassy`s cultural, social and information department in Cairo.

Upon his arrival at the Cairo international airport, Minister Marty was greeted by Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt Abdurrahman Mohamad Fachir, the Indonesian foreign affairs ministry`s Director General for Asia, the Pacific and African affairs TM Hamzah Thayeb, and the ministry`s Middle East Director Ronny Prasetyo Yuliantoro.

Egypt`s Deputy Foreign Minister in charge of Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Mohammed Hegazi.

Minister Marty was scheduled to return to Indonesia on Thursday at 4.45 pm Cairo time on Thursday.

Ambassador Fachir earlier said the visit of Minister Marty was aimed at strengthening the bilateral ties between Egypt and Indonesia and sharing experiences in dealing with political crises.

Fachir referred to the current political crisis in Egypt since the toppling of President Hosni Mubarak last February 2011 after 30 years in power, as well as the political turmoil in Indonesia in 1998 when President Soeharto was forced to step down after having ruled the country for 32 years. (*)
