"Finally, I must say that all of these problems could threaten the sustainability of security in our country, of public security."
Bogor, West Java (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono summoned military (TNI)/police chiefs from across the country here on Tuesday with regard to the maintenance of national security and order.

The regional military commanders and regional police chiefs from across the country gathered along with cabinet ministers and heads of regional governments at the presidential palace.

President Yudhoyono said in his speech before the meeting that Indonesia had been given a warning with regard to the security and order situation in the country, referring to several cases of violence that happened of late.

"What we have seen, I think, is a warning for us about the public security and order situation in the country," he said.

President Yudhoyono said horizontal violence, terrorism and radicalism were threats to security and order that could erode the public`s sense of peace.

"If we ignore these thingsthey could disrupt domestic security, communal security. On the other hand we have also seen incidents showing acts of defiance," he said.

Among the incidents , he said, was an attack on state apparatus on duty.

"Finally, I must say that all of these problems could threaten the sustainability of security in our country, of public security," he said.

Therefore, the President called on the TNI/police leaderships to seriously tackle the security and order threats so that the people would not lose their sense of security.

"Unless we are serious in dealing with these threats, people may lose their sense of security and this must never happen. Because if it does, people may find their own ways of ensuring their security and this must not happen," he said.

The TNI/police leaderships would also hear a speech from the coordinating minister for political, security and legal affairs, Djoko Suyanto.
