Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian and Turkish parliaments have agreed to encourage close cooperation between the two countries in the fields of military and defense industry.

The meeting of the two parliamentary delegations ran in a positive and constructive way, Chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission I for defence, information and foreign affairs Mahfudz Siddiq said on Tuesday.

"We have agreed to encourage and support the memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of military cooperation and defence industry President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and President Abdullah Gul have signed," Mahfudz said.

He said the Turkish parliament was also planning a visit to the Indonesian House of Representatives after legislative election in June this year.

At the forum Yasar Yakis who led the Turkish delegation praised Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey Nahari Agustini whom he said was very active and productive in building Indonesia-Turkey diplomacy, Mahfudz said.

During their stay in Turkey, the Indonesian parliamentary delegation held meetings with the management of ROKESTAN Industry which produces rockets and the management of `FNSS Industry` which produces combat vehicles.

On Tuesday evening, they are scheduled to pay a courtesy call on President Abdullah Gul.

Earlier, on Monday night, Turkish multinational company `Nurol Holding Co` held a banquet in honor of the Indonesian lawmakers. (*)
