Manila (ANTARA News/Xinhua-OANA) - The Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) will resume formal exploratory talks on April 27 to 28 in Kuala Lumpur.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process said one of the main topics that will be discussed in Wednesday`s talks is the issue on MILF commander Ustadz Amiril Umra Kato who allegedly broke away from the Moro group and formed his own armed forces.

According to Marvic Leonen, chief government negotiator with the MILF, the government views the issue of Kato as a "serious concern."

Leonen said that the MILF considers Kato as an internal problem, and that they are exerting efforts to resolve this problem.

The government panel also intends to clarify some points from the MILF`s draft Comprehensive Compact, which contains its standing position on substantive issues.

Leonen added the government has consulted various sectors, including local officials in the southern Philippine provinces of Maguindanao and Sultan Kudarat "in an endeavor to be transparent and accountable to the proposals that we are giving on the negotiating table." (*)
