Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono discussed global issues, including the food and energy crises with the administrator of the United Nations Development Program, Helen Clerk, here on Thursday.

President Yudhoyono`s special aide for international relations, Teuku Faizasyah, said on the occasion, the President stressed the importance of cooperation among all parties to overcome the problems.

"The president in particular raised the issues of food resilience and energy crisis, the increasing price of fuel oils and asked for views from the UNDP regarding what kind of cooperation Indonesia and the UNDP could make. This is an important agenda that could not be done by one country but must be done by a group of countries in the ASEAN context. Institutional collaboration is also needed between the UN and countries in the region," he said.

Faiza said apart from energy crisis and food resilience they had also talked about Indonesia`s efforts in reducing gas emissions by up to 26 percent by 2020 and the REDD+ program.

"The REDD plus program has been underlined as one of the remarkable programs because Indonesia is able to give its commitment above other countries to gas emission reduction. The UNDP has also noted that something Indonesia could also share with is its future anticipation towards overcoming emission problems," he said.

He said the two also discussed various development issues which is in essence on how lessons could be learned from Indonesia with regard to its achievements in the development efforts.

"Helen Clerk just now emphasized on how we could share our experience not only in the field of development but also in other sectors such as democratization and natural disaster handling. These are all assets that Indonesia could share with other developing countries," he said.

During the meeting President Yudhoyono was flanked by foreign minister Marty Natalegawa, minister state secretary Sudi Silalahi, cabinet secretary Dipo Alam and some other officials.

Helen Clerk was former prime minister of New Zealand from 1999 to 2008. She is the first woman to lead the UNDP since April 17, 2009. Helen is also the chief of the Nations Development Group which is a committee with leaders of UN agencies, programs and working groups dealing with development issues as its members.
