Speaking in a discussion on `Jakarta Tobacco Free Initiative`, WHO representative Khanchit Limpakarnjanarat, said on Thursday that one in ten people in the world now dies from smoking tobacco.
"About 80 percent of tobacco-related deaths happens in developing countries," he said.
The WHO official said that there would be eight million deaths due to tobacco in 2030 if no tobacco control steps were taken.
Therefore, Khancit said that the governor`s bylaw No. 88 / 2010 was a strategic and wise policy issued to protect the health of the Jakarta people.
