Pasuruan, E Java (ANTARA News) - Thousands of workers from different labor unions in Pasuruan district, East Java, along with the deputy district head and other local officials took part in a long march to mark Labor Day or May Day on Sunday.

Head of the Pasuruan district manpower and transmigration office Yoyok Heri Sucipto said tens of thousands of workers from 16 out of 17 labor unions in the district participated in the event.

He said 32 thousand coupons for a number of prizes including motorcycles and bikes had been all distributed among the participants.

The aim of holding a long march accompanied by a dangdut music show featuring nine female vocalists to mark the Labor Day was to allow workers to convey their aspirations more peacefully, he said.

To allow workers to exercise the freedom of assembly and convey their aspirations, the event`s organizing committee also gave leaders of labor unions a chance to hold orations, he said.

Suryono Pane said the commemoration of Labor Day in Pasuruan was different from that of other regions to make it more elegant.

After all, workers still had a chance to convey their aspirations related to local and national problems, he said.(*)
