Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono observed Labor Day or May Day along with workers of PT Industri Keramik Kemenangan Jaya in Gunung Putri sub-district and PT Tirta Investama in Ciluengsi sub-district, West Java, on Sunday.

"Since five years ago, I have observed the Labor Day by visiting companies," he told hundreds of PT Tirta Investama workers.

The President said only by visiting both domestic and foreign investment companies in the country could he know the status of workers` welfare.

In addition, Yudhoyono said he also wanted to see if employers and employees had close relations. "If they have good relations, God willing, the companies will grow. If the companies grow they will be able to improve their workers` living standard," he said.

The head of state expressed hope that all companies in the country would make a constant effort to improve their performance which would eventually promote their workers` living standard.

"If they grow, don`t forget to improve their workers` welfare," he said.

Speaking before the management and employees of PT Industri Keramik Kemenangan Jaya, the President asked local companies not to be afraid of competing with foreign companies which are far bigger.

The head of state was during the visit accompanied by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, Minister/State Secretary Sudi Silalahi, Industry Minister MS Hidayat, Health Minister Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih, Cabinet Secretary Dipo Alam, and West Java Governor Ahmad Heriawan.(*)
