Bandung, West Java (ANTARA News) - Floods inundated hundreds of houses at Baleendah, Dayeuhkolot and Bojongsoang sub districts, Bandung District, West Java Province, as the Citarum River had overflowed Monday.

The Citarum water spill submerged the Banjaran-Dayeuhkolot road at a height of up to 60 cm, causing vehicle line-up up to three kilometer long in a severe traffic jam.

"The Citarum overflowed on Sunday evening. Hopefully there will be no rain this afternoon," Zaenuddin (43), a resident of Baleendah, said.

Local inhabitants were once again forced to evacuate their belongings to higher ground. They had just experienced similar floods which subsided last Thursday (April 28).

The worst flood-affected area is Cieunteung kampong which is inundated at a depth of between 50 and 100 cm.

At Dayeuhkolot village, houses, particularly those located near the river bank, were flooded at a height of up to 70 cm.

According to weather forecast, more rains are expected to fall in Bandung District up to May and it might trigger more floods in the district.

Meanwhile, floods have submerged at least five villages in three sub districts in Kutai Timur District, East Kalimantan Province, since Sunday (April 24).

The flood-affected sub districts were Muara Ancalong, Long Masengat and Muara Bengkal.

"In Muara Ancalong sub district, three villages are currently flooded," Muara Ancalong Sub District Head Syafranuddin, said recently.

The three villages, namely Kelinjau Ilir, Kelinjau Ulu, and Senyiur are inundated following the overflowing of the Mahakam River, he said.

The floodwaters reaching a height of between 10 and 15 cm have affected residential areas, community health centers (Puskesmas) and school buildings.

Incessant heavy rains which have fallen in Kutai Timur District over the past three days, have caused the floods.
