Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The forestry ministry has reserved about 35.4 million hectares of forests for production forest utilization activities, a senior official said.

The ministry`s secretary general, Hadi Daryanto, said here that in line with the implementation of forest moratorium the government was also preparing degraded forest areas for forest economic development.

The forestry minister, Zulkifli Hasan, has since January set aside 34.5 million hectares of forests that would be used or cultivated as an area for economic activities, Hadi Daryanto said.

Of the total, 13.2 million hectares are reserved for natural forest timber - natural forest concessions (IUPHHK-HA), 7.4 million hectares for ecosystem restoration and 9.1 million hectares timber estate (HTI).

"Every year we only provided 500,000 hectares for the development of HTI," he said.(*)
