Jakarta (ANTARA News) - US Ambassador Scot Marciel hosted a reception in honor of a visiting University of California - Berkeley (UC Berkeley) delegation and the UC Berkeley Alumni Club in Indonesia.

Over 80 alumni attended the reception, meeting with old friends as well as greeting new acquaintances, the US Embassy here said in its official website on Tuesday.

Ambassador Marciel gave opening remarks highlighting the important role that alumni play in supporting the effort to increase the number of Indonesians who study in the United States.

In addition to Ambassador Marciel, UC Berkeley`s Chancellor Robert Birgeneau gave remarks stressing the strong ties between UC Berkeley and its alumni in Indonesia.

Finally, Prof. Dorodjatun Kuntjoro-Jakti, a former Coordinating Minister of Economics and UC Berkeley alumnus, expressed his appreciation to US Embassy and the UC Berkeley Alumni Association for arranging the reception.

The UC Berkeley delegation visited Jakarta from April 26-28 as part of their annual Asian tour to strengthen the ties with local UC Berkeley communities.

This year, the UC Berkeley delegation consisted of: Chancellor Robert Birgeneau and Mrs. Birgeneau; Vice Chancellor Scott Biddy; Assistant Vice Chancellor David Jeu; and Director of International Relations Amy Ambrose.(*)
