Sanaa (ANTARA News/AFP) - One Yemeni protester was shot dead and 40 others wounded as security forces and plainclothes gunmen opened fire on a demonstration in the capital Sanaa on Wednesday, a medic said.

The dead man was shot in the chest "near his heart", a medic at a field hospital in Sanaa`s University Square told AFP.

The wounded had mostly received shots to the neck or head, he added.

Security forces opened fire on thousands of demonstrators who marched from the square -- the epicentre of protests in Sanaa -- heading towards the district that hosts government headquarters, witnesses said. (*)
