Nusa Dua, Bali (ANTARA News) - The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is not just a moral force but a tangible movement through its role in efforts to overcome various global issues, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said.

In his opening address of the 16th Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement here on Wednesday, Yudhoyono said, "It is not enough for our Movement just to be a `moral force`. Our conscience must be a weapon, and we can effectively use it on a wide range of issues in the international agenda."

The head of state said there should be a commitment to using a peaceful approach and win-win communication to overcome various problems.

Non-Aligned Movement, according to the president, should be part of the solution of every problem that occurred in the new world order at present.

"Every international organization must adapt to the global order," President Yudhoyono said.

According to him, there were still various "hot spots" of problem on the face of the earth.

He said the problems were among others global political and economic imbalances, the Arab-Israel conflict which remained unsolved,
growing trend of resources competition that may lead to resources conflict, ethnic disputes and religious intolerance including Islamophobia, and predictable rising cases of terrorism and trans-national crime.

On the nuclear issue, the president said the long-established nuclear powers have taken meaningful steps toward nuclear disarmament.

"Doors have been opened to the cause of disarmament, a cause to which our Movement has been dedicated from the very start," President Yudhoyono said.

Another lesson, according to the president, was that confrontation may work on some occasions, but there were times when engagement and cooperation could achieve much better results.

"Our Movement has always been about the struggle, but it is also about finding solutions. And these days, solutions can best be found through engagement and international cooperation. We will need plenty of these lessons, as we navigate the brave new world ahead of us," he said.
