Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) secured more than Rp2 billion in cash after arresting a judge who had allegedly taken a bribe on Wednesday.

KPK spokesman Johan Budi said here on Thursday KPK investigators did not only confiscate Rp250 million put in three envelopes but also US$84,228, Sing$284,000, 20,000 yen and 12,000 baht worth of cash money.

He said the investigators also confiscated a Mitsubishi Pajero car and Rp142 million more in cash money. He said they had all been secured as evidence and if later they were found not to be connected with the bribe case they would be returned.

With regard to the arrest, he said, it was done at the judge`s house in Sunter, North Jakarta, Wednesday night.

The judge known by his initial as S was currently handling a bankruptcy case of PT SCI.

The bribe was allegedly given in connection with the permit given to the company to divide its assets so that they could be sold. Johan said the assets were two plots of land in Bekasi, West Java, estimated to be worth Rp35 billion.

KPK caught Judge S red handed after receiving a bribe from PW reportedly a curator.

KPK is now still investigating S and PW and it has 1x24 hours before it could decide whether or not they would be named suspects.

The deputy chairman of the Judicial Commission, Imam Anshori Saleh, meanwhile expressed concern over the incident. He said he believed public trust in the judiciary would drop.

"The Judicial Commission is very concerned over the case of the judged caught red handed receiving a bribe by the KPK," he said to ANTARA here on Thursday.

He said this happened while efforts were just being made to improve the image of judiciary.

He hoped this would make all parties particularly the Supreme Court to conduct organizational reform and reform on human resources more optimally.

"For the sake of further legal process the judge concerned needs to be suspended temporarily," he said.(*)
