"An example of bad political practice has again been demonstrated by Democrat Party cadres who launched the accusation that a senior figure named `A` was behind their party`s present woes without presenting substantiating facts. If they have facts, why don`t they just report him to the authorities, instead of making evasive or ambiguous statements," Bambang Soesatyo, a Golkar Party member of the House of Representatives (DPR), said here Friday.
The PD cadres` allegation, he said, appeared to be an effort to divert people`s attention from the party`s problems or to find a scapegoat for its internal troubles but at the same time they had actually slandered any senior figure in the country whose name happened to begin with the letter A.
"We understand that they are in a panic. But if it leads them to make wild accusations against others, that is no longer appropriate. There were even PD cadres who claimed `A` was somebody with great financial power. What are they driving at. It is obvious they are politically still green behind their ears," Bambang said.
Pointing out that there were many politicians whose initial was `A`, Bambang suggested that they all convey a protest to PD over its cadres` allegation that could easily be considered as slandering them.
One senior politician whose name begins with the letter "A" is Aburizal Bakrie, the Golkar Party leader who entered politics after building a successful business empire.(*)
