Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Hours after Jakarta`s mass media went into a frenzy over a report that several news organizations had received packaged coffins, a writer claimed it was all nothing but his trick to publicize his new book titled "Rest In Peace Advertising".

The imaginative author, Sumardi, said he resorted to unconventional promotion method to draw maximum public attention to his new book.

"This strategy represents a new breakthrough in the advertising world," said Sumardi who is also CEO of marketing firm Buzz & Co. here Monday.

Sumardi said he had sent 100 coffins to the addresses of as many marketing executives of mass media, telecommunications and food producing companies.

He said he had spent about Rp500,000 on the purchase and transportation of each coffin just for the sake of attracting people`s attention to his book.

The new book would be launched later on Monday in Jakarta.

Sumardi also expressed his readiness to be investigated by the police, if his book marketing strategy using coffins was considered a an act of terror.

At about 10 am on Monday morning, a number of national mass media received a crate containing a coffin. The recipients of the unusual "gifts" included Detik.com, Kompas.com, Okezone.com, English-language daily newspaper "The Jakarta Post", Tempo, television media ANTV and RCTI.

The crates carried a sticker that said "Rest In Peace" with the name of the company`s delivery service called "Rest in Peace Soon" addressed from Unit 166 located at Jalan Asia Afrika Door IX, Senayan, Jakarta 10270.

Other recipients of the coffins were executives of Indosat Tbk., (Bambang Pangestu), Garuda Food (Ferry Haryanto), Garda Oto (Liaurentia Iwan Pranoto) and PT LG Indonesia (David Tjokro ).
