Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA News) - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police have arrested 30 foreign nationals suspected of operating a scheme to defraud members of the public through cellular short text message (SMS) communications.

The suspects operated from a luxury house in Puspitaloka Cluster of BSD City Serpong, South Tangerang , Banten, where they were arrested on Thursday morning.

The group consisted of men and women from various countries, including China and Taiwan, a police spokesman said, adding they were also suspected of doing their criminal acts through the internet.

The police had lately received complaints from many members of the public who had become victim of the scams.

Meanwhile, chief of the Serpong police precinct, Commissioner l Heribertus Ompusunggu on Thursday confirmed that a police raid had occurred at a house in the Puspitaloka Cluster complex in Serpong.

The arrested suspects were taken to the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Headquarters in a public bus at about 15.00 West Indonesian Time.

The police also confiscated a number of unspecified goods from the house and carried them away in three large boxes and five black plastic bags.
