"International investors attending the two-day World Economic Forum on East Asia (WEF-EA) in Jakarta from June 12-13, 2011 are showing a `bullish` interest in investing in Indonesia," the minister said.
Mari said indications of international investors` high interest in Indonesia was seen from the increasing number of representatives who wanted to have talks with representatives of the Indonesian government about investment.
According to the trade minister, a lot of WEF participants had asked her about investment prospects in Indonesia.
She said various companies engaged in retail and telecommunication had expressed their interest in investing in Indonesia and making the country a base for development of their export activities.
The minister explained that to face globalization in the 21st century, investors should understand various related issues such as climate change, food resilience, and the post-crisis global economic recovery.
She said that if Indonesia could maintain the pace of its development, it would contribute to the world`s economic recovery.
The World Economic Forum in Jakarta, according to the trade minister, was a rare opportunity to build networks with international institutions, private parties, and prospective investors from other countries.
Meanwhile, BNI President Director Gatot M Soewondo said BNI was greatly interested in serving as a bridge between Indonesia and foreign investors.
"From our roadshows in various countries, we heard that foreign investors in general consider Indonesia prospective enough for investment," Gatot said.
Director of Quvat Management in Singapore, Thomas T. Lembong, said on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum here on Sunday that
the government, business players, and investors should optimally utilize the wide investment opportunities in Indonesia.
Lembong said China and India had at present a great interest in investing in Asia, including Indonesia, and this trend should be used as best as possible.
"Asia is on the rise. Indonesia at present is a `darling` to investors who are now aware that Indonesia has enormous potentials," Lembong said.
