"They received the radical ideology from JI members that once entered Poso," National Police head of public relations division Inspector General Anton Bachrul Alam said here on Tuesday.
Five suspects have been arrested so far namely Aryanto Haluta alias Abu Ja`far, Rafli alias Furqon, Anang Muhtadin, Maman Susanto and Ali Miftah, he said.
"From the suspects it was learned that their motive of attacking police members was a radical ideology," he said.
He said they also had a grudge against the police and therefore wanted to take revenge on them.
"They have had self-confidence after joining military-like training twice," he said.
The first military-like training lasted four days in the Biru Hill in Tambarana, Poso District, early in August 2010 and in the Malino III hilly region in Soyo Jaya in the district of Morowali for four days from May 15 to 18, 2011.
"This group cooperates with terrorist groups in Solo, Cirebon and Kalimantan for the training such as in using guns, reading maps and assembling bombs in Malino," he said.
Anton said their other motive was collecting arms to be used for building a power.
As a result of their attacks on Jalan Emy Saelan, Palu, on May 25 two police officers had died.
Two other suspects in the police attack namely Fauzan and Dayat were killed during a firefight with police in Poso at 11.15am on June 4. (*)
