Padang, W Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Hundreds of people staged a rally outside the Padang municipal legislative council (DPRD) on Wednesday to seek clarification on the third phase of assistance for victims of the September 2009 earthquake.

The demonstrators, most of them housewives, also demanded that the legislative council set up a special committee to disburse the aid as soon as possible.

"We are holding the rally to ask when the third phase of the aid will be disbursed. We hope the aid will be distributed among those entitled to it," Zurminitia, one of the demonstrators, said.

The demonstrators who hailed from Kuranji, Koto Tangah, and Kecamtan Nanggalo subdistricts in Padang municipality alleged that the first and second phases of such aid had gone to wrong recipients.

In response to the demonstrators` demand, member of the city legislative council Maidestal Harimahesa said his side would soon follow up on the demand by summoning the work operation team (PJOK).

"We will summon PJOK tomorrow to clarify the disbursement of the fund," Esa said.
