"I hope this meeting and all activities (that have been done) can increase the bilateral relations," President Yudhoyono said when receiving a courtesy call of Japanese Foreign Affairs Minister Takeaki Matsumoto here, Friday.
The two countries would keep on looking for opportunities to strengthen cooperation and the bilateral ties.
Foreign Affairs Minister Matsumoto expressed his gratitude for Indonesia`s attention to Japan, and reaffirmed a similar commitment.
Earlier, President Yudhoyono was invited by Japanese Emperor Akihito in the Emperor`s residence. He would later hold a bilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan.
Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono arrived in Japan on Thursday (June 16) for a state visit at the invitation of Japanese Emperor Akihito until Saturday (June 18).
President Yudhyono is scheduled to present letters from children in Aceh to children in Japan affected by earthquake and tsunami last March.
President Yudhoyono had said that his visit to Japan was showing Indonesia`s solidarity with Japan and for presenting Indonesia` aid to Japan.
"The president and entourage would visit one of the affected regions to meet with survivors and present aid and letters from Aceh children to their friends in Japan," he said in a press conference in Switzerland where he attended an ILO conference before leaving for Japan.
President Yudhoyono and entourage are also scheduled to visit one of the shelters for survivors in the worst hit area in Japan.
On Friday morning, President Yudhoyono gave a lecture at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies on "Responding to International Challenges, Strengthening Indonesia-Japan Relations,"which was attended by 300 invitees.
