Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Saudi Arabian government has apologized and expressed regret for failing to give prior notice to the Indonesian government about the execution of Ruyati binti Satubi, an Indonesian migrant worker.

The apology was conveyed by Saudi Ambassador to Indonesia Abdurrahman Mohammad Amin Al Khayyat when being called by the Indonesian foreign ministry here, Monday (June 20), an anonymous source said here Wednesday.

The envoy promised that such a mistake would never happen again in the future.

The Saudi ambassador is expected to be called again by the foreign minister who will send a letter of the Saudi foreign minister, on Wednesday (June 22).

In the letter, the Indonesian foreign minister is to convey the government`s protest over Ruyati`s execution which was not transparent.

The minister would also ask for improvement of Indonesian migrant worker protection mechanism in Saudi Arabia by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and Mandatory Consular Notification Agreement.

The government also asked Saudi Arabia to return the remains of Ruyati to Indonesia.

On Tuesday (June 21), the Indonesian Consulate General in Jidda went to the Saudi foreign ministry to convey a strong protest over the beheading of Ruyati, and ask for the return of Ruyati`s remains.

The Saudi foreign ministry on the occasion regretted it had not sent a notification to Indonesian representatives in Saudi prior to the execution.

The ministry also said it would give special attention to Indonesia`s demand for the return of Ruyati`s remains.

Ruyati was beheaded with a sword in Mecca on Saturday (June 18, 2011) after being found guilty of killing the wife of her Saudi employer, Khairiya binti Hamid Mijlid, by striking her repeatedly on the head with a meat chopper and stabbing her in the neck, the Saudi interior ministry said in a statement.
