A lot of state money is allocated for diplomatic activities, including for the salaries of diplomats, local staff and renting buildings for embassies.
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - An independent team needs to be set up to evaluate the performance of all Indonesian representatives overseas, a political analyst said.

"Our ears have been deafened to hear frequent news about the death of Indonesian migrant workers overseas such as the case of Ruyati and many others who are tortured or even went missing," Boni Hargens, political scientist at the University of Indonesia, said in a press statement from Berlin on Wednesday night.

Boni who is in Germany to finish his study, questioned: "When we could end this problem where our ability is only to cry and condemn such a tragedy? The question could all be answered with a simple logic, namely it is because of the negligence of the state in protecting its citizens."

He said that many quarters questioned the performance of Indonesian representatives abroad in protecting the Indonesian citizens.

"For a change in the future, I think we need an independent team to evaluate the performance of all Indonesian embassies abroad," he said.

The team should be charged with the task to evaluate the performance of the embassies` work productivity and effectiveness, including their financial performance.

"We know a lot of state money is allocated for diplomatic activities, including for the salaries of diplomats, local staff and renting buildings for embassies," he said.(*)
