"The team members will represent central and regional governments as well as businesses in all corridors," State Enterprises Minister Mustafa Abubakar said after attending a meeting on MP3EI at the office of the coordinating minister for economic affairs here on Monday.
He said the MP3EI implementation team which combines representatives from central and regional governments and businesses from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) reflected the unity and cohesiveness of economic players.
Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on May 27, 2011 officially launched the region-based master plan for six corridors marked by the launch of 17 infrastructure projects worth Rp4,000 trillion in total investment from the national budget, state-owned companies (BUMNs), national private businesses and foreign investors.
The six corridors include Sumatra as the first corridor which is to be made into a production center and a farm produce processing center as well as an national energy supplier with the focus of development put on palmoil, rubber and coal industries.
Java as corridor two meanwhile will be made into a basis for supporting industries and national service with development focus on food product, textile and transportation industries.
Kalimantan will be the third corridor. It will be made into a center of production and mining product processing and a national energy supplier, focussing on oil/gas, palm oil and coal.
Sulawesi as the fourth corridor is to be made into a production center and a national agricultural, plantation and fishery product processing center. Focus will be put on food farming, plantations, fisheries and nickel mining.
Bali and East Nusa Tenggara meanwhile as the fifth corridor meawhile will be made into a tourism gate and a national food buffer. Focus of development will be put on tourism, agriculture and animal husbandry.
Papua and Maluku is the sixth corridor. The two regions will be made into a center of natural resource processing center with the focus to be put on mining sector especially gold mining, agriculture and plantations.
Mustafa said the team would focus on mobilizing all projects in each corridor which will be led by a cabinet minister with the provincial governor as vice chair.
"That way there will be representatives from ministerial level and the regional government," he said.
All economic ministers in the cabinet agreed that breakthroughs were needed to accelerate economic development.
He said "the government has already coordinated with offices concerned to adjust at least eight regulations to support the MP3EI programs such as on taxation, land acquisition, customs and excise and others."
