"Until today (June 28), the participation of 19 yachts has been confirmed in the annual yacht race. Hopefully, the number of participants will increase," the coordinator of the Darwin-Ambon Yacht Race 2011, Hellen de Lima, said here Tuesday.
Around 30 participants have expressed their intention to join the race, but so far only 19 have confirmed their participation, she said.
"The registration is open until June 30, it`s almost positive that the number of participants will increase," she said.
The participants of the Darwin-Ambon Yacht Race 2011 will start from Darwin harbor, North Austaralia, on July 23 Juli, and are expected to reach finish at Amahusu beach, Nusaniwe sub district, Ambon, on July 26.
"It`s estimated that they will arrive in Ambon on July 26, but it could be longer, it depends on the weather in the sea," Hellen said.
The 19 yachts with a total crew of 68 members which have been confirmed, are Australia Maid with skipper John Wardill, Breakaway (Alan Chalk), Even Karma (John Hardy), Freedom Express (Ross McCombe), Game Set (John Mulkearns), Pandora (Rick Setter), Raucous (Bob Colman), Scot Free II (Barrie Morgan), Shady Lady (Peter Charles), Solace III (Roger Hatten), Xscape (Andrew Boller), Fantasia (Andrew Stransky), Wicked (Danny Foley), Lady Bubbly (Chris Mitchell), Parlay (Ray Jones) and Maralinga (John Jordan).
The race competing for a trophy from the Indonesian tourism and culture minister, will have three categories, namely multihull racing division, monohull racing division and crusing rally division.
